Washington Island Foundation

Supporting and sustaining the Mosling Recreation Center for generations to come.

The Washington Island Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, strengthening, and advancing the Rec Center as a vital part of island life. Through thoughtful stewardship and active community support, the Foundation helps ensure the
Rec Center remains a place for wellness, recreation, and connection.

WHY THE FOUNDATION WAS CREATED

The Mosling Rec Center is at the heart of Washington Island life, a gathering place for fitness, youth programs, and community events.

The Foundation’s roots reflect the generosity that helped make the Rec Center possible. Early support from the Mosling family and later the Island Angels Ltd. have provided foundational gifts that strengthened the Rec Center’s future and inspired broader community involvement.

Building on that generosity, the Washington Island Foundation was established to provide long-term financial stability and to create permanent funds that sustain the Rec Center beyond day-to-day operations. Its purpose is to protect this important community asset and position it for continued growth.

HOW THE FOUNDATION SUPPORTS THE REC

Endowment Fund

The Endowment Fund builds long-term financial strength. Contributions are invested with care, and earnings help support the Rec Center’s programs and operations over time. This creates a lasting resource that benefits future generations.

Capital Improvement Fund

The Capital Improvement Fund supports significant repairs, upgrades, and improvements. These funds help maintain a safe, welcoming, and well-equipped facility for everyone who uses the Rec Center.

Together, these funds allow the Foundation to respond to immediate needs while planning strategically for the future.

GOVERNANCE AND COMMUNITY STEWARDSHIP

The Foundation is guided by a volunteer Board of Directors who serve as both stewards and advocates for the Rec Center. As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Foundation is committed to transparency, accountability, and responsible financial management.

Working in partnership with Rec Center leadership, the Board actively supports efforts to strengthen and sustain this important community resource.

These gifts help strengthen the Foundation’s ability to support both current programs and long-term priorities, leaving a meaningful mark on the island community.
